What should i not do after a spray tan?
To preserve your tan, avoid swimming, long showers, baths, steam rooms, and saunas. Don't be afraid to “top off” your tan with some tinted moisturizers. Just make sure that the color is the same as your Be Bronze tan. Highlighter and bronzer also help you keep that glow for longer.
- Don't Shower Right Away. We know… it sounds gross, but trust us it's important! ...
- Don't Get a Mani/Pedi: If you are getting your nails done, it's always best to do so BEFORE your spray tan session. ...
- Don't Shave or Wax: ...
- Don't Forget Sunscreen:
Most of the time it comes down to the PH of your skin, if any of your daily beauty routines and/or medications affect your skin's PH balance it will most definitely affect your spray tan results. Another interesting thing that might affect your spray tan is your period.
Generally, every bar of soap out there will strip your spray tan. Use a non-exfoliating body wash made especially for fake tanners and use warm water. Avoid using washcloths or loofahs. You are trying to preserve that top layer of tanned skin, not remove it.
Apply a moisturizer or body butter to shower damp skin. (NOT Curel or Dove – these can ruin tans!) A few good choices would be Shea Moisture, CeraVe, Lubriderm, Vanicream, or Hempz, and some people prefer pure Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, or Cocoa Butter.
Avoid a blunt razor and avoid hair removal too frequently. You could try using hair removal creams, epilators or wax the hair off the areas instead of shaving. Strawberry legs are essentially enlarged pores of hair follicles that contain oil, bacteria and dead skin.
Since spray tans usually last between seven to nine days, it's actually best to get a spray tan 2-3 days before your big event. This allows time for your tan to fully develop and gives you time to have one rinse-off in between the tan application and the event.
“Tans always look the best one to two days after they've developed because it takes a full 24 hours for the product to set, followed by the richest glow and color payoff, with ample time to rinse off the excess product so it's not overly saturated or pilling,” says DiMarchi.
Don't wash the solution off for at least six hours
There are some newer products on the market that allow you to shower sooner with the same great results (ask your salon if they carry it). You can leave the solution on for 12 hours at most. Any longer and you may actually develop streaking.
We know you love to show off your shoe collection, but after the tanning session, avoid wearing socks, sneakers, or any shoes that are going to cover the tops of your feet. Flip-flops are going to be your best bet!
How do you wash your face after a spray tan?
You can wash your face as normal after a spray tan. It's always good to note that seeing as you wash and touch your face more frequently the tan will always fade faster on your face. To maintain the tan on your face you can use tanning drops, tanning mousse, or gradual tanning lotions/sprays.
WAIT IT OUT. As a rule of thumb, you should wait for at least four to eight hours before showering so your tan can develop to its true color. Beyond that, it's best to wait 24 hours before washing your hair. This will give your tan time to set fully.
Spray-tanning the face may not be for everyone, but it's a simple way to keep the bronze glow going all year long. And with these quick tips for how to tan your face, like choosing a self-tanner, prepping your skin, applying the product, and post-care, you're sure to feel confident every time you walk out the door.
A strange and unnatural color: The point of a spray tan is to look like you've been kissed gently by the sun, and if your skin has taken on a dark or orange color all over, something has gone horribly wrong. Generally speaking, a good spray tan should not look like a thick layer of color.
Spray tan on face is too dark
Most often, looking like you have too dark of a tan on your face is a result of literally using too much solution (remember: two ounces for the entire body, not just the neck up!) or being sprayed with a percentage that is too high for your skin type.
Many drugstore soaps (Dove) and bar soaps leave an invisible film on your skin that will not allow the sunless tan to penetrate properly resulting in a streaky, discolored tan. Dove can also make your tan fade faster and has the ability to turn it brassy due to how it alters your skin's pH!
You should advise your client to NOT use any commercial bar soaps either prior to the session and afterwards. Especially Dove soap, This is the worst thing to use and will cause the tan to fade and become patchy. It can also leave an invisible film preventing development of the spray tan.
Please do not schedule your manicure, pedicure, or waxing appointments after your tan, as these treatments will remove any color from your skin. If possible, do not wear a bra until you have rinsed the cosmetic bronzer off.
Waxing and hot steam from a shower open up the pores — if you apply fake tan to the skin immediately, the product can seep in and create a dotty or spotty effect. ¬†Pollution, oily skin, make-up, sun damage and genetics can also play a part in enlarging the pores.
When you shave or take a hot shower, your skin pores open. Applying cosmetics soon after, fake tan or certain other products, can clog skin pores and cause the dots in question. This doesn’t happen to everyone and every time, but it often happens to many.
How many days before pictures should I get a spray tan?
Leading up to your big day, there will be many opportunities to rock that gorgeous glow, like your engagement photos, or bridal shower. This gives you the perfect timeline to do a trial run. How long before your wedding day should you get your spray tan? 2 days prior to wedding day or event date is best.
- Make sure to complete any manicures and pedicures the day before your airbrush tan treatment if you choose to do so. Do not get them on the same day as your tan - soaking your hands and feet in the water before your spray tan will result in an uneven color.
We recommend waiting at least 4-8 hours after your spray tan before you shower for the first time, but don't wait more than 24 hours. When you shower for the first time after getting a spray tan, you'll probably see some golden glow wash down the drain, but don't worry!
If you sleep with your airbrush tan still developing: it is crucial to sleep in a dark colored, long sleeve shirt and long pants that are loose fitting clothing after your tan. If you do not do this, you run the risk of too much smudging or having the tan absorb into your hands or other parts of your body incorrectly.
Put on loose, cotton clothing with long sleeves afterward.
Go for cotton fabrics, too—the bronzer in the tan doesn't stain cotton, so you can easily wash the tan out if it rubs on your clothes. Think loose sweatpants, cotton t-shirts, or flowy A-line dresses. The fewer seams there are to dig into your skin, the better.
