What can i not do after a spray tan?
Sweat heavily, shower, bathe or swim for at least 4 hours afterward. Note that chlorine will break down a spray tan quickly and so we suggest avoiding it entirely, if possible.
Most of the time it comes down to the PH of your skin, if any of your daily beauty routines and/or medications affect your skin's PH balance it will most definitely affect your spray tan results. Another interesting thing that might affect your spray tan is your period.
Wait at least 4-8 hours for your tan to develop before showering. For best results, experts suggest showering between the 4-8 hour mark to ensure the tan has fully developed. However, make sure not to leave your tan on for more than 24 hours.
Try not to wear a bra for at least 6 hours after your tan. Preferably, wait until after you take your first shower and the tan has fully set (usually 4-6 hours minimum after the tan, or the following morning). The straps can dig into your sides and back and cause streaking or dark spots.
Even the smallest splash of water on your fresh spray tan can result in light spots or a streaky appearance, something that you will really want to avoid.
Avoid a blunt razor and avoid hair removal too frequently. You could try using hair removal creams, epilators or wax the hair off the areas instead of shaving. Strawberry legs are essentially enlarged pores of hair follicles that contain oil, bacteria and dead skin.
WAIT IT OUT. As a rule of thumb, you should wait for at least four to eight hours before showering so your tan can develop to its true color. Beyond that, it's best to wait 24 hours before washing your hair. This will give your tan time to set fully.
Shaving after a spray tan can remove some of the tan, leading to uneven or patchy results. Waiting 8-12 hours after the session and using gentle shaving techniques is important to maintain the tan.
Spray tan on face is too dark
Most often, looking like you have too dark of a tan on your face is a result of literally using too much solution (remember: two ounces for the entire body, not just the neck up!) or being sprayed with a percentage that is too high for your skin type.
Keep it loose
When deciding what to wear to a spray tan session, always choose loose clothing that won't rub on your skin. Flowy dresses and skirts, or loose-fitting jumpsuits without elastic are ideal. If you're comfortable, avoid wearing a bra or underwear, which tends to cling to skin and may cause discoloration.
How do you wash your face after a spray tan?
You can wash your face as normal after a spray tan. It's always good to note that seeing as you wash and touch your face more frequently the tan will always fade faster on your face. To maintain the tan on your face you can use tanning drops, tanning mousse, or gradual tanning lotions/sprays.
If you feel more comfortable wearing something on top then we recommend bringing a small bandeau/bikini top, or rolling up a vest to cover the breast area. We prefer not to spray tan over a bra as straps can cause the tan to streak.
Wearing shoes or socks after your spray tan can cause the solution to rub off and ruin your tan OR it can oxidize and deepen the color to an unnatural tone. Instead, wear flip-flops to your appointment, and avoid wearing socks or shoes until after your first shower.
If you are getting your nails done, it's always best to do so BEFORE your spray tan session. This is because when most nail techs do your nails, they soak your hand and feet in soapy water, sometimes even use wet, warm wash clothes to wipe your skin. These are all big no-no's when it comes to post-spray tan behavior!
Generally, every bar of soap out there will strip your spray tan. Use a non-exfoliating body wash made especially for fake tanners and use warm water. Avoid using washcloths or loofahs. You are trying to preserve that top layer of tanned skin, not remove it.
Streaky/Runny results during spray tan:
Spraying too close can cause your solution to drip down the body or cause overlapping patterns on the arms, legs, and torso. A dripping spray tan will cause runs down your body once the active DHA has a chance to set, resulting in long lines of discoloration.
If your spray tan is looking streaky, blotchy or otherwise uneven, Evans says it can still be easily fixed. Basically, you're going to use self-tanner to fill in lighter patches and a moisturizer and exfoliator to address darker patches.
Many cosmetic products can cause dots on the skin, since dots are a consequence of clogged pores. When you shave or take a hot shower, your skin pores open. Applying cosmetics soon after, fake tan or certain other products, can clog skin pores and cause the dots in question.
You can shave after tanning without removing all your newfound colour. Just make sure you wait at least 8 hours, so your tan has had time to develop. Then shave with gentle pressure, using a brand-new razor and an oil-free wash or shaving foam that won't break down your faux glow.

Can you wear a thong for a spray tan?
DO think about what you're going to be wearing after your spray tan. If there's a certain bikini or swimsuit you will be wearing, try it on to ensure there are no unwanted white lines. Most people go for just a thong, naked or a strapless bikini. We can provide a disposable thong if necessary.
After your spray tan appointment, you will need to stay dry for 8 hours to let the tan develop. After that, you can shower off the solution with water only. Twenty-four (24) hours after your spray tan is when you should begin to use soap and moisturizing lotion.
Luckily, unless your garments are white or pale, fake tan stains will usually come out on your standard 40C wash. For stubborn stains however, you'll need a more targeted approach. Wash the item on the highest temperature the care label allows and add in a pre-wash stain removal powder.
Use Dish Soap
Dish soap can not only cut through grime and grease but can also get rid of your spray tan. However, dish soap can be very drying on the skin. It's especially important to moisturize after replenishing your skin.
Do NOT use Dove soap, or anything that says "renewing," "regenerating," "anti-aging," or "anti-acne"! They have ingredients in them that will remove your tan. Sulfate-free and natural products are best. Color wash off in the shower is normal: this is only the color guide bronzer.
