How long does Jergens self-tanner take to develop?
Jergens Natural Glow self tanning lotion gradually tans skin, even when the beach is miles (or months) away. Apply our self tanner at least once a day will enhance your natural skin tone within several days, and in about one week, you'll have beautiful, natural-looking fake tan.
The color develops instantly, and will continue to develop for several hours after application to a natural-looking shade.
Our Self Tan ranges can be washed off after just 1 hour, but for a deeper tan we advise avoiding showering, swimming, and perspiring for 6 - 8 hours to allow your tan to develop fully on the skin.
For best results you should apply JERGENS® Natural Glow® Daily Moisturiser every day—a gradual, natural-looking colour will result after about 1 week of continued use. If desired, try a darker formula, but the results may not be as natural-looking.
If you aren't able to apply before bed, you just need to wait 4-5 hours before showering or getting wet. JERGENS® Natural Glow® Instant Sun® Sunless Tanning Mousse is a one day application, so after the color develops, you will have a nice natural tan. If you want a deeper color, you can apply again the next day.
So it comes out with a brown guide, but as soon as you apply it, it becomes dark brown, giving you an instant tan. Immediately after application I had a medium shade tan. After leaving the product on overnight, I woke up and had a dark tan that was so smooth and natural looking.
A: It shouldn't wash off or leave a ring, but it will fade.
Once applied you can wash the tan off after just 2 hours, but for a deeper long lasting tan leave on your skin for up 8 hours. It really is personal choice. You might have to test it out a few times, to work out what suits you the best! For best results, we recommend letting your tan develop 6-8 hours.
This is the important part when it comes to how to tan faster: depending on whether you're after a light, medium, or dark toned bronze, leave your self tan on for 1, 2, or 3 hours before rinsing in the shower. Your golden glow will continue to develop over the next 8 hours, leaving skin looking sensationally sunkissed.
Once you have showered, you will notice the bronzer washing away, leaving you looking tanned and glowing underneath. From this point on hydration is the key! Please note: the tan will continue to develop even after the shower, so do not be alarmed if you're not as tanned as you expect to be.

Though Jergens makes a tanning moisturizer specifically for your face, I find that the 3 Days to Glow version works fine and doesn't irritate my skin. One buyer with sensitive skin said that they use it on their face as well: "People kept asking if I was tanning!
Can I use Jergens products on my face? We would recommend using Jergens All-Purpose Face Cream. Our Body Creams and Lotion have not been specifically tested for face usage. If you choose to apply to your face, please avoid eye contact.
Step 4: Sit Back & Relax
Immediately after tanning, let it dry completely before putting on some loose, dark clothing to prevent your tan transferring. Either apply your self tan in the morning for daytime development, or apply before you go to bed to wake up looking bronzed and beautiful.
This is probably the best self tanner I have used. I have used the Isle of Paradise one for quite some time but decided I needed a change as it made me very orange. I tried this one and it is amazing. I only fake tan my face so I put it on every other day as I shower every day.
Whats another amazing thing about Jergens Natural Glow? It WILL NOT stain your towels as the DHA (the ingredient that creates the color) interacts with the proteins in your skin but there are no proteins in your towels! Amazing right? Won't stain your bed sheets or clothing either.
If you leave a self tanner on for too long, it can start to look patchy and uneven. No one wants to be walking around with a lingering tan. It can also cause your skin to become dry and flaky. If you're starting to see these signs, it's time to exfoliate and remove the fake tan.

There are different ways to go about layering, but no matter what, you want to make sure the previous tanner has dried before applying your next layer. You can put on multiple layers in one day or, my personal favorite, apply over 2 days.
Great question! Prolonged swimming and time spent in water can cause a sunless tan fade quicker. The best way to avoid fading, streakiness, and/or splotchiness from a pool is to apply your self tanner 2-3 days prior to being in the pool.

Self-tanners in general have always been plagued by that telltale odor, which is the byproduct of DHA (the ingredient that creates that bronze tint) reacting with your skin. Apparently hearing our (very loud) pleas to solve the stench, Jergens put their scientists on the case.
Another way to make your tan darker is to apply two layers of self-tan or to top your tan up the day after the initial application.
If you got your spray tan at night and it's time for bed, you will wake up in the morning with colour starting to develop and you will get darker through out the day, so don't call your spray tan technician asking for a respray just yet.
Once skin is exposed to UV radiation, it increases the production of melanin in an attempt to protect the skin from further damage. Melanin is the same pigment that colors your hair, eyes, and skin. The increase in melanin may cause your skin tone to darken over the next 48 hours.
