Can you put regular lotion on after self tanner?
Once you've washed off the colour guide and waited at least 8 hours, you can apply your favourite moisturiser to your entire body. Moisturising the skin everyday is the key to a longer lasting fake tan as it prevents the tan from cracking and flaking.
Apply a moisturizer or body butter to shower damp skin. (NOT Curel or Dove β these can ruin tans!) A few good choices would be Shea Moisture, CeraVe, Lubriderm, Vanicream, or Hempz, and some people prefer pure Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, or Cocoa Butter.
AFTER THE TAN
Shower lightly in cold β lukewarm water for 45 seconds ONLY after your desired development time. Use plain water, don't use shower gels, scrubs, shampoos or loofah during the first 24 hours after your treatment. Pat your skin dry. Do not rub or scrub your skin.
Use a Non-Oil Based Lotion Daily
βOil-based products unfortunately can fade your tan fast,β Evans explains. βOils are great, but they make your skin more susceptible to exfoliation.β Still, moisturizing regularly is key to making your tan last. Try the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for oil-free hydration.
Post-tanning:
While I am obviously hugely in favour of looking after your skin, I would try to keep it as simple as possible the morning after you have applied your facial self-tanner. While it's certainly not a time to exfoliate, it is a good time to hydrate the skin.
Many people wonder whether or not moisturizing after a spray tan is a good idea and now you know the facts! Once you've successfully self-tanned, wait until the products have dried completely before attempting to put on any clothes. We recommend at least 10 minutes, but keep checking any problem areas, such as under the arms or behind the knees, to see how they're drying. If you're still tacky, it's too early!
Avoid heavily fragranced lotions as well as acne products and retinols as these can strip your tan more quickly. Products to avoid both before and after your tan include: Dove, Aveeno, Eucerin, Bath & Body Works, Suave, Nivea, Neutrogena, Ivory, Lubriderm, Dial, Olay, acne products, exfoliating products, and retinol.
