5 Lotions to use after a spray tan
Kissed By The Caribbean • Mar 30, 2022
The best lotion to use after a spray tan is one that is FREE from mineral oil, perfume, and harsh ingredients. And lotion full of skin-nourishing simple ingredients will help to extend your spray tan. When I meet with a new client for a spray tan, I make sure to emphasize the importance of using quality ingredients on their skin. Using “spray tan friendly” products will keep your spray tan looking flawless longer. One of the things that we discuss at length is moisturizing.
Rules For Moisturizing After a Spray Tan
Keeping a spray tan looking flawless means using an excellent quality skin nourishing lotion that can help your tan last longer. The added benefit is that my clients who are exfoliating and moisturizing regularly end up with healthier younger-looking skin.
When To Moisturize After Your Spray Tan
After your spray tan appointment, you will need to stay dry for 8 hours to let the tan develop. After that, you can shower off the solution with water only. Twenty-four (24) hours after your spray tan is when you should begin to use soap and moisturizing lotion. If you apply products within the 24-hour period, your tan will not fully develop to the desired color.
How Often To Apply Moisturizing Lotion
Keeping your skin hydrated is extremely important with a spray tan. The tan adheres to our skin cells which we shed on a daily basis. Keeping the skin well hydrated will slow this down and your tan should last approximately 7 to 10 days. Adding a gradual sunless tanning lotion can even aid in your tan lasing longer. A few good sunless gradual tanners are:
- Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Foam
- Jergens Natural Glow +FIRMING In-shower Self Tanner
- St. Tropez Self Tan Classic Bronzing Mousse
- Jergens Natural Glow Instant Sun Body Mousse
- SOL by Jergens Tanning Water Mousse
Lotion Ingredients to Avoid After a Spray Tan
Many products on the market contain ingredients that just don’t work well with a spray tan. These products can cause a patchy fade, strip the color, make your tan appear to be peeling, or can quickly dry out your skin causing your tan to flake. Below is a list of ingredients you should avoid while wearing your spray tan:
- Mineral oil
- Alcohol
- Fragrances
- Dyes
- Essential Oils
- Anti-Aging Products- Retin-A, Glycolic, AHA’s
- Anti-Acne Products- Salicylic Acid
- General unpronounceable (is this a word?)
- Parabens
- Sulphates
Heavily scented lotions such as Bath and Body Works or Victoria’s Secret are NOT spray tan friendly products and should. Oil-free sunscreen lotion should also be used if wearing your tan at the beach, on vacation, or wherever sunscreen needs to be used as a spray tan does not protect us from the UV Rays of the sun.

Tanning For Men

The tanning trend has become just as popular among men as it is among women. What has fueled this craze further is the images of bronzed, tanned men in billboards, movies, and TV shows.
How Long Does a Spray Tan Take?
By Kissed By The Caribbean • 01 Aug, 2022
Sellers of spray tanning equipment make the marketing claim that a spray tan can be done in two minutes with an HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) spray tan system, the dominant choice in spray tan equipment today. That’s a bit rushed. A quality result is more important than to apply the spray tan as quickly as possible. The actual application can be done in 5 minutes. Some technicians will do two spray passes versus one, which will take a little longer. An allowance for drying time, 5 to 10 minutes, needs to be added as well. Drying time can be shortened by using direct air from the air hose or with a hair dryer.

IS THERE SUCH A THING AS AN ORGANIC SPRAY TAN?
By kissed By The Caribbean • 30 Apr, 2022
In virtually every TV advertisem*nt, you’ll probably hear the words ”organic” and “natural” used to sell a wide variety of different products. These adjectives are often applied to products to make them appear healthier – including foods and soft drinks. The unfortunate result is that many people now confuse the terms “organic” and “natural” for each other. In reality, natural products aren’t necessarily organic, and even products advertised as organic could contain a significant amount of unnatural ingredients. In the United States for example, products that don’t carry a USDA Organic Seal only need to contain 70% organic ingredients in order to advertise themselves as an organic product. The remaining 30% of ingredients don’t even need to be natural – so they may consist of nearly a third synthetic materials. And thanks to confusing regulations in other territories, many products advertised as “organic” could be stretching the truth when it comes to some of their “organic” ingredients.
